The government on Monday constituted a six-member committee headed by former Justice Aamer Raza A Khan to hold a probe into a controversial story carried by Dawn on October 6.Â
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, the committee will enquire into the circumstances of the alleged leak, determine the interests and motive behind the press leak/ publication, establish the identity of those responsible and apportion blame on the identified individuals.
The committee shall submit its report within the 30 days, according to the notification. An official said that the Ministry of Interior has issued a notification of the committee constituted to probe controversial news story about a purported civil-military rift and handling of non-state actors.
Former Justice Aamir Raza Khan will be the chairman of the committee, which has representatives of the security agencies ISI, MI and IB. Secretary Establishment Tahir Shahbaz and Provincial Ombudsman, Punjab Najam Saeed will also be part of the committee, along with Director FIA Usman Anwar. He said that the investigation committee will probe the controversial story from different angels and will also summon journalist Cyril Almeida in this regard.
Justice Aamer Raza A. Khan served as Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) from 1979 to 1981 and also as Advocate General Punjab in 1979. Currently, he is also a visiting professor of law in the Punjab University and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).
He is a senior Advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan. He also authored the much acclaimed commentary of the Code of Civil Procedure 1908 in 1969, presently in its 10th edition.
