Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah on Tuesday said that petitions against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Supreme Court in the wake of the Panama leaks are meant to determine whether he and others, involved in holding offshore companies, fulfil requirements of Articles 62, 63 of constitution.Â
"This is not Panama leaks case rather it is a straight disqualification case against the prime minister, Ishaq Dar (finance minister), Captain Muhammad Safdar (Retd)," he added.
Talking to journalists in his chamber, he said that if it could have been only Panama Papers issue, the court could have issued notices to others whose names surfaced in Panama leaks, but so far notices have been issued to primer, his family, and some close associates.
He said that the opposition's bill which has already been introduced in Senate will not only pave the way to investigate the 'Panama Paper' but will provide the procedure to curb the corruption in future in the country.
"The PPP is going to table the bill on Panama Papers in the Senate on November 4 and I hope, the government will not oppose it," he said.
Answering a question, he flayed ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for creating hurdles for PTI marchers led by KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak.
He said that the government should not take action against peaceful PTI workers. He strongly condemned the crackdown and manhandling of PTI workers and MNA Arif Alvi.
Answering another question about controversial leak, Khursheed Shah said that "Pervez Resheed was made a scapegoat. The PML-N government wants servants not political workers".
He said that a senior minister of the government had claimed that investigation of news published about "security leaks" would be completed within 48 hours but five days have passed since.
To a question that director general Sindh Rangers Sindh had reprimanded Sindh Chief Minister, Shah categorically denied any such happening, saying the DG Rangers works under the chief minister.
Shah also squashed the rumours of any in-house change in the centre. He said that Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar would never resign on the news of 'security leaks'. "If crisis compounded, the prime minister will prefer a political martyrdom," he said. Â -Business RecorderÂ
