ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said Islamabad would be made a secure city by carrying out complete survey of people living in the capital.
The minister instructed that a complete survey of people residing in Islamabad should be carried out by police in collaboration with Capital Development Authority (CDA) and NADRA to make the city secure.
The minister was speaking here Wednesday to a team of policemen led by Inspector General of Police Islamabad Sikandar Hayat, which busted a gang of kidnappers this week and recovered two persons who were kidnapped in December.
The minister appreciated the policemen for arresting the kidnappers and busting other gangs in Islamabad in the last six months saving the capital from acts of terrorism.
He said he would put before cabinet a proposal in the next meeting for awards for policemen who successfully carryout operations against criminals.
The IG Islamabad informed that police after hectic efforts recovered the kidnapped persons and arrested six kidnappers from G-11 Sector, who were demanding Rs 40 million as ransom.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar assured that working conditions of policemen would be improved and despite financial constraints steps would be taken to improve facilities for them and their families.
The Minister said police are facing an extraordinary situation as the country is facing a war like situation and dealing with threats of terrorism.
He urged the policemen to uphold human rights and protect citizens from oppressors and safeguard their life, property and honour from criminals involved in heinous crimes such as kidnapping and robberies.
The policemen along with army jawans are protecting every inch of the country and their families should be proud of their historic role performed at a critical phase for the country, he added.
Chaudhry Nisar said better transport, communication and arms and ammunition would be provided to police so they are better equipped to deal with terrorists.
"Islamabad Police will be a model outfit as it was considered in the past," he said adding the police performance had steadily deteriorated in the past but now there are signs of improvement as evident from its successful operations against criminals.
The Minister warned of strict action against elements in police force for involvement in any acts of corruption or negligence towards their duties.
