Musharraf expected to be charged today

ISLAMABAD: Former President (retd) General Pervaiz Musharraf is expected to be charged today on 1st January 2014 in high treason case for overthrowing the Constitution and imposing emergency on November 3 2007.

The complaint of the high treason case against Musharraf was registered by Federation. The case hearing will be led by a three-member bench of the special court headed by Justice Faisal Arab and comprising Justice Syeda Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali.

During a Preliminary hearing on December 24 2013, the court announced that the complaint of the Federation and its charges on Musharraf would be read out by court on 1st January 2014. Meanwhile, the court also announced to provide all possible security and safety to former President Musharraf to make him reach the court.

Musharraf’s lawyer Anwar Mansoor Khan informed the court that five kilograms explosive material along with a detonator and two pistols were found close to the route of Musharraf due to which the former president could not appear in the court.

The court had adjourned the hearing till January 1, 2014.
