On his return from Islamabad to Karachi, he told the media that he has resigned from Senate to show his support towards the idea of overseas Pakistanis being able to take part into country's political and administrative matters.
He said that he had also tendered his resignation as Internal Affairs adviser to PM, but it was turned down by the PM's office.
He said that he will continue to advise the Prime Minister on matters of Internal Affairs as per Prime Minister's advise.
It should be noted, that Rehman Malik has announced his resignation amidst the introduction of a bill which will amend the law regarding dual-national persons holding public office in Pakistan.
