Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Umar Ata Bandial took notice of the issue and directed President's principal  secretary to submit his reply in a week's time.

He also formed a larger bench to hear the further  case proceedings.

A petition was filed by Munir Ahmed charging President Asif Ali Zardari of contempt.

During the case proceedings, petitioner's lawyer AK Dogar requested the court repeatedly, to summon the president and seek an explanation regarding his position.

Denying his request, the Chief Justice LHC said that a notice has been issued, and that the office of President holds great esteem and respect and the court will summon him when or if required.

President Zardari is known to use the presidency for Pakistan Peoples Party meetings and his various political endeavors.

On May 12, 2011 a full bench ruled that President Zardari should disassociate himself from PPP's co-chairmanship as long as he holds the office of President of the country. He was also asked to stop holding party meetings at the presidency.

During the case proceedings, Muhammad Azhar said that the use of President's office for political activities was against its sanctity, dignity, neutrality and independence. Hence it was expected that the President will stop using the Presidency for his party's political meetings.

None of the court's orders were obeyed by the President up till now. President Asif Ali Zardari is still instated as the co-chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the President of Pakistan.

He asserted that the President is guilty of contempt of court, by not abiding to the court's ruling that he should disassociate himself from politics and that he should be charged, tried, convicted and sentenced for contempt of court.
