Earlier today, Supreme Court resumed hearing of Speaker National assembly’s ruling over issue of contempt of Court case against Prime Minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.

The three-member Bench heard the case headed by CJP, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry including Justice Chaudhry, Justice Jawad S Khwaja and Justice Khilji Arif.

The bench has been hearing a set of petitions filed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI), Azhar Chaudhry advocate and others challenging the speaker’s ruling of May 24 over the qualification issue.

Attorney General Irfan Qadir concluded his arguments before the court.

During the proceedings AG Qadir said, Parliament has the authority to rule out the decisions of Supreme Court. According to Article 248 of constitution Prime Minister enjoys immunity and he is not answerable to any court of the state.

The verdict of Seven member's bench was unconstitutional and requested the court to terminate it, AG said.

Court never ordered PM Gilani to write letter,The prime minister’s summoning in court was also against the law, Qadir said.

“We respect the courts, however, state institutions should try to avoid clash amongst themselves,” the attorney general said.

Upon which the chief justice remarked that the judiciary respected the parliament and that there was no clash between the state’s institutions.

Justice Khilji remarked that the court’s duty was to interpret the law and the constitution and to stop all measures which violate these.

Qadir said that if the court issued an order against the speaker’s ruling, the parliament would declare it invalid.

The hearing is underway in SC.

Earlier, on June 18, Aitzaz Ahsan completed his arguments according to the court's orders.

During which CJP remarked that, A prime minister does not only represent a party, but is also a country’s representative. A convicted person is representing 18billion people.”
