Counsel of PM Gilani , Aitzaz Ahsan requested for a larger bench when the court resumed the hearing of identical petitions challenging the ruling of the National Assembly’s Speaker.

Ahsan moreover said that the prime minister was not disqualified in the contempt of court case.

Upon which the bench said that the matter of disqualification could have been brought up by filing an appeal against the prime minister’s conviction.

The bench also said that by not appealing against the conviction, the prime minister had accepted it.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, is hearing the petitions filed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), advocate Azhar Chaudhry and others challenging the NA speaker’s ruling of May 28 that there was no question of PM’s disqualification.

Earlier, During hearing Attorney General interrupted case proceedings and continued to ridicule the judges and used harsh words against them, the furious remarks provoked some lawyers who chanted slogans against AG and tried to approach him but security was called in to control the situation.

CJ in his remarks said no review petition filed against Gilani conviction, which shows conviction was accepted; AG also asked CJ to detach himself from case; meanwhile Gilani’s council Aitzaz Ahsan sought next Wednesday’s time for arguments but CJ directed him to present arguments by today (Friday).
