Dispute over Mehdi Hassan’s burial in public park

KARACHI: A new dispute has risen in deciding the burial place for the King of Ghazals, late Mehdi Hassan's funeral, Aaj News reported.

The residents of North Nazimabad took to the streets opposing the burial of Mehdi Hassan's body  in a public park called Mehdi Hassan Park located in N.Nazimabad.

It was earlier decided that to create a memorabilia of sort, Mehdi Hassan's body should be placed in the park that was named after him, but the residents of that area have denied permission and said that it is not appropriate to hold a burial anywhere but a graveyard.

Local residents complained that a park is for people's leisure and a playground for children. They said that the park is for fun and leisure and a lot of people go there,  it would bring disrespect to Mehdi Hassan's legacy.

However it was later decided that king of ghazals, Mehdi Hassan, will be laid to rest at Shah Muhammad Shah graveyard in Karachi tomorrow on Friday.

His funeral prayers (Namaz-e-Janazah) will be held after the Friday prayers at Al-Noor Society.
