Kohistan suo moto: Accused girls are well and alive: HR activists

A team of Women's rights activist was on a visit to Kohistan's tribal area where it was believed that a local tribunal has sentenced Five (5) women to death on charges of adultery and fornication. Aaj News reported.

According to various reports of local news channels, Fauzia Saeed and Farzana Bari two of the activists who flied into Kohistan to check on the incident, have informed media that the girls in Kohistan are well and alive. Women Rights activist Farzana Bari said that she and her team have personally met two of the girls accused in the video and that they were convinced that the other girls were also alive.

Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan had taken a sou motu notice of this issue and released orders to produce the accused women in the Supreme Court if they were still alive.

During today's case proceedings, the CJ exclaimed that if the girls are well and alive, they should be produced in the court "within an hour", if not, the court will order Army to go to Kohistan.

If the girls are not alive then the Jirga Members should be produced in front of the Supreme Court, he added.

The Chief Secretary of KP informed the court that three helicopters were sent to dispatch the girls from Kohistan and bring them to the Supreme Court but due to unforeseen circumstances all communication with the helicopters was lost.

To this, Justice Jawwad Khawaja remarked that how is it possible to loose contact with a helicopter in this time  and age of communication and technology.

MNA Kashmala Tariq raised an objection stating that why wasn't the Human Rights team given a satellite phone.

The case hearing came to a conclusion with out the girls being produced in the court.

This incident became the center of attention globally, when the two accused men who are seen in the video of girls clapping and singing, came out of Kohistan and made the details of this incident public.

The men, Gul Nazar and Bin Yasir who claimed that the five girls have been sentenced to death by the local Jirga, are still adamant that the girls have been killed by the Jirga.
