The delegation will comprise of economic officer, Lisa Buzenos, political officer, Kimberly Phelan and security advisor Khalid Javed. The delegation will be visiting GB for five days starting from Wednesday.
The US embassy had earlier approached the Inspector General of Police Gilgit Baltistan, Hussain Akhtar, to provide sufficient security at the hotel where the US delegation will be staying at.
The reason of their visit was kept undisclosed by the US embassy. However, a list of people the US delegation will meet has been released. During their visit, the US delegation will meet Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Syed Mehdi Shah, various ministers and speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan assembly along with other politicians, lawyers, social/student activists and journalists of GB.
Many speculations have risen following the announcement of US delegation's visit to the violence struck valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan. A recent wave of sectarian violence had claimed scores of lives and spread chaos in the peaceful valley, tensions decreased after the government called on Army which imposed a curfew in order to restore peace in the area.
