QUETTA: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry proposed direct talks with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to find a solution of Balochiatan and termed it as the most important issue in Pakistan need to be resolved immediately.
As the proceeding of Baluchistan's missing person case resumed in the Supreme court Quetta Registry, Defence Secretary Narjis Sethi, the premier’s principal secretary Khushnood Lashari, DIG Balochistan, IG Police, Chief Secretary Balochistan and the interior secretary appeared before the court.
The chief justice remarked that the government is not following Article 148 of the Constitution despite repetitive reminders. While addressing Khushnood Lashari, the CJ said that situation is the province is critical but government is not taking any steps according to the Constitution.
A three-judge bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Jawad S. Khwaja was hearing a petition on the law and order situation and human rights violations in Balochistan at its Quetta registry.
The chief justice again termed the province’s security situation as alarming. He said the provincial capital of Quetta had no-go areas and that police officers were not willing to work in Balochistan.
Later, the hearing was adjourned tii June 1.
On Tuesday Due to unsatisfactory progress Deputy Attorney General, Malik Sikander resigned from his post after leaving the courtroom.
The incident occurred when Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, expressed his dissatisfaction with the Deputy AG Malik Sikander, due to the absence of defence secretary, interior secretary and PM's principal secretary who were summoned earlier by the apex court. It was Deputy AG Malik Sikander's responsibility to ensure the presence of above mentioned officials.
The Deputy Attorney General, in his defense, stated that he had not received a copy of the court's order. Expressing displeasure at his reply, the Cheif Justice ordered Malik to submit a written statement stating that he was unable to satisfy the court's orders.
Later, deputy Malik Sikander, left the courtroom for a ten minute recess and stated that he will no longer appear before the court as the Deputy Attorney General, instead he will be present only as a common lawyer.
