SC declares Rental Power Projects ‘illegal’

According to our correspondent, Supreme court has also ordered to held Wapda, Pepco and Genco responsible for the corruption in the projects and directed Chairman NEPRA to submit report every 15 days.

During the court proceedings today, CJP said that electricity is purchase on 35-40 Rupees per unit, while Reshma Rental Generation Company Limited provided less electricity then the agreement. Court also pointed out the embezzlement in Karkey Rental Power Plant, Gulf Rental Power Project and Sharaqpur Power Plant.

The two-member bench comprising of the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain was hearing the suo motu case.

The court reserved the verdict on RPPs case on December 14, 2011.
