The decision came after his arrest, when his lawyers submitted a bail application to the court which was backed by the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) report suggesting that Mr. Anjum required certain cardiac treatments which weren't accessible there. A Rs 2 million bail was granted to him.
Anjum had submitted a similar application on 25 January only to be rejected by a special judge.
On the orders of the court, the PIMS deputy executive director directed a medical board to evaluate the medical conditions of Aqeel Anjum who requested a bail on medical grounds and submit the report to the court.
His petition stated that a bail be granted to him for medical reasons and tha others accused in this case have been granted bails on similar grounds.
The FIA arrested Aqeel on 3rd December 2011, after his pre-arrest bail was denied.
Anjum Aqeel has been in the news after his confrontation with the National Police Foundation (NPF) regarding an agreement to hand over a piece of land to the NPF which was paid for 10 years ago in the form of Rs. 5.75 billion.
