IM Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan was the parliamentarian who out of consideration of national radio's financial stability proposed Rs. 2 to be deducted from each card of Rs. 100 in account of Radio tax.
Dr. Babar Awan said that this tax will be applicable after approval of annual budget 2011-12.
The Telcoms have responded to this atrocity as an illogical and inane idea. they said that Telecom Idustry should not be responsible for collection of Charity for an organisation that is responsible for its own demise. Instead, they suggested that government rather use utility bills for such kinds of charity collection.
“Telecom operators won’t become collection service for the government, we will severely oppose thisâ€, said an official of a mobile company.
This tax addition would be another in the row of tax additions on the telecom industry and the Telecom users as well.
It is a fact that Telecom companies are already paying the highest amount of taxes in Pakistan, if imposed, this tax is going  to give a big blow to their businesses.
Telecom has been a victim of a chain of these 'situational-taxes' ever since the boom in its industry, this tax would be an addition to that chain.
