The poster features the iconic statuette alongside images from past winners including ‘The Godfather’, ‘Forrest Gump’ and ‘Gone With the Wind’. ‘Gladiator’, ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘Casablanca’, ‘Giant’ and ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ are also included to represent one movie from each decade since the 1930s.
Academy President Tom Sherak said, “Whether it’s a first date or a holiday gathering with friends or family, movies are a big part of our memory. The Academy Awards not only honour the excellence of these movies, but also celebrate what they mean to us as a culture and to each of us individually.â€
The poster was designed by award-winning artist Anthony Goldschmidt, alongside Mark and Karen Crawford from Blood&Chocolate. The nominations for the 84th Academy Awards will be announced on January 24. Billy Crystal will host the Oscars ceremony on February 26 at the Kodak Theatre, Hollywood & Highland Centre.
