Qureshi- Bopanna win ATP masters crown

Bopanna and Qureshi jumped two spots to No.5 courtesy this win. They beat No. 2 seeds Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic and No. 3 seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor on their way to the title. This was their third title of 2011 and would be a big confidence booster for the pair going into the season ending championships.

“This win gives us a lot of confidence, it is our biggest title by far, all the hard work over the years has paid off.” said Bopanna after their win. Qureshi further added, “We are ecstatic to win our first Masters 1000 title, Last year we didn't play well in finals and this year we have won three out of three.”

The seventh seeds faced no difficulties during the match and did not face even one break point. The first set was one way traffic for the “Indo-Pak express” as they broke their oppponents twice to wrap the set in less than half an hour. The second set was a closer affair with the crucial break going to the seeded pair in the ninth game. Bopanna and Qureshi consolidated the break and served the match out in just over an hour.

The unseeded wild card pairing of Julien Benneteau and Nicolas Mahut caused a big upset when the beat top seeds, the Bryan brothers in the second round and then went on to beat Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, who were seeded sixth for the tournament.

The runners-up were happy with their performance and said, “They (Bopanna-Qureshi) were stronger than us today and I wish them good luck in London next week. We got a wild card and had a great run, we enjoyed playing in front of a big crowd and having their support.”
