The former Pakistan captain was convicted last week as a key orchestrator in a conspiracy to bowl deliberate no-balls in the Lord's Test match against England in 2010.
Butt's lawyer, Yasin Patel, confirmed the appeal on Wednesday. The other Pakistan cricketers found guilty alongside Butt, fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, received one-year and six-month jail terms respectively.
Cricket agent Mazhar Majeed was jailed for 32 months for paying the trio to carry out the no-balls at prearranged times.
The scandal emerged after an undercover journalist approached Majeed pretending to be a wealthy businessman, and secretly recorded the agent accepting a bribe to arrange the no-bowls.
The International Cricket Council handed five-year bans to all three players in February, but the trio have since appealed their suspensions.
