Corruption touching Rs3 trillion in Pakistan

TIP Advisory Committee Chairman Adil Gilani said that the figures do not include the loot and plunder of the national wealth in the mega scandals like Pakistan Steel Mills scam, NICL plunder, Haj swindle, rental power plants fraud and many more.

“Conservative figure for last three years are more than a trillion rupees per annum with 15-20 percent annual increase.

He said that the height of corruption in Pakistan during the last three years could be judged from its position in the TI Corruption Perception Index sliding down from 47th in 2008 to 42nd in 2009 and 34th in 2010.

Leading economists and financial experts are of the firm view that if corruption was effectively checked in Pakistan, the country would not require any foreign aid, including from the United States.

Transparency International is a non-governmental organization that monitors and publicizes corporate and political corruption in international development. Its Corruption Perceptions Index is a comparative listing of corruption worldwide.
