The overnight leader maintained his pace by playing a par round for an aggregate of 205 to win the honours by five strokes in the 54-hole 13th Byco Sindh Open Golf Championship to the delight of a holiday crowd.

Munir, who had earlier won the eighth Sindh Open at the same venue in 2006, remained consistent and a front runner right from start. He carded six under par 66 to share the top slot in the first round with Ansar Mahmood.

He shot another brilliant five under 67 in the next that also gave him slender lead over challenger Ansar. He rounded off the third round with a par score of 72 which include a birdie and a bogey.

Munir, who was named in 100 Club Asian Order of Merit along with Shabbir in 2009, received a winning purse of Rs153000 from Amir Abbassicy, CEO of Byco, sponsors of the event, at the prize distribution ceremony that followed the event.

Also present on the occasion were CEO of Arabian Sea Country Club, Arif Ali Khan Abbasi, secretary of Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF), Taimur Hasan and tournament coordinator, Dr Tariq Raz.

Despite scoring a double bogey and two bogeys, Ansar, who also hails from Islamabad, shot a par round for a total of 210. He also scored five birdies in the last round. He received runner-up purse of Rs103000.

Defending champion and winner of 16th CNS Open crown in the preceding event, Shabbir, had to be content with third position. He fired two under 70 to finish with 212.

Aurangzeb Khan of ASCC played the best round of three under 69 which envisaged with half-a-dozen birdies and two bogeys.

Ace golfer Sajid Khan of the ASCC became the new amateur champion succeeding Suffian Dhoduk. He beat M. Rehman of Rawalpindi by one stroke.

Asad I.A. Khan, the moving spirit behind Sindh golf, annexed the 36-hole senior amateurs’ title with a gross score of 164.

Pervez Ansari, Captain of the KGC, won the honours in net category with a score of 150.
