In all, four Russians in Basra "received light wounds as the result of a mortar shell explosion," the ministry said in a statement.
"According to information from our embassy, which is in constant contact with them, their lives are not in danger."
Earlier, the British military announced that two Russians and an Iraqi had been killed in a "rocket attack" likely meant to target a British base near the power station where the men were working.
The Russian statement did not mention the British report and the ministry's press office could not be reached for further comment.
Russia was planning to repatriate the wounded men, the ministry's statement said, also calling on Iraqi security forces and coalition forces to "take all necessary measures to rule out threats against the lives of foreign specialists who are helping rebuild economic infrastructure."
