Labourers resist privatisation of Pak Steel

This was resolved in a meeting of Pak Steel Mills Progressive Union's general workers held with its President Sardar Khan Niazi in the chair. The meeting discussed issues relating to conditions of the organisation and issues faced by its workers.
They said that thousands of workers of Pakistan Steel had been deprived from their right of promotion since last 15 yeas, while according to agreement signed with past CBA, each worker had to be promoted to next scale after every five years.
They pointed out that no referendum had been held since 1996 due to which workers were deprived of their fundamental rights. This is state of conditions that even an ailing worker is not shifted to hospital in city, they deplored. The meeting demanded of authorities concerned to restore promotions, implement time-scale promotions rules and announce holding of referendum for CBA immediately.
It was decided that Progressive Workers Union would hold a big rally of workers on August 14, 2007 in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Karachi.
