India seizes Pakistani company’s cargo
A Pakistani company, Cosmos Engineering, is suing a shipping company and freight service for the seizure of its commercial cargo by Indian authorities.
The shipment, originating from a Chinese port and destined for Karachi, was confiscated at the Mumbai port on February 2.
Indian authorities allege the cargo contained components for Pakistan’s nuclear and missile programs. However, Cosmos Engineering and the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintain the consignment was purely for commercial purposes.
The lawsuit, filed in the Sindh High Court, claims the shipping company acted negligently, leading to the seizure.
The petitioner alleges collusion between the shipping company and Indian authorities, resulting in significant reputational damage and financial losses. Cosmos Engineering is seeking over Rs 209.1 million in damages.
