PTI lawmaker Marwat fears Imran Khan will be jailed for 14 in new case
PTI lawmaker Sher Afzal Marwat has expressed his fear that jailed former prime minister Imran Khan would be further jailed for 14 years in a new case on Monday.
“Such developments often affect negotiation,” he said while appearing on News Insight with Amir Zia which was aired on Aaj News. “We can counter those who want to keep Khan in jail by continuing talks with the government.”
The accountability court would announce its verdict in the £190 million corruption case involving Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi on December 23.
Accountability Judge Nasir Javed Rana reserved the decision after proceedings on the reference were held in Adiala jail on Wednesday.
When asked, he reiterated that the PTI was not pleading for talks.
In response to a query over PML-N lawmaker Hanif Abbasi’s criticism, Marwat called for patience and tolerance amid the negotiation process.
“Some forces are making an effort not to bring politicians to the table,” the PTI leader said.
He added that the names of committee members should be announced first. Marwat was of the view that it was wrong to say talks were conditional.
“We will make demands, it is up to them how they respond,” he said.
