Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic shines with career-high 56 points
In a stunning display, Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic scored a career-high 56 points, alongside 16 rebounds and eight assists, during a game against the Washington Wizards.
Despite his incredible performance, the Nuggets were unable to secure a victory, losing 122-113 to the struggling Wizards, who had faced a 16-game losing streak prior to this matchup.
After the game, Jokic expressed his disappointment with the team’s recent performances, acknowledging that they are not moving in the right direction. He took responsibility for the loss, saying, “I think it’s everybody’s fault.”
The Serbian star stressed the need for the team to improve and suggested that exploring alternative motivations, such as financial repercussions, might help instigate a turnaround.
The Denver Nuggets, with a record of 11-10, have been grappling with consistency, having not secured back-to-back wins in nearly a month.
Their recent losses have placed them in a precarious position, where they could potentially face a play-in scenario if the season were to conclude on Saturday.
In the absence of key players such as Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, and Dario Saric due to injuries, Nikola Jokic shouldered a significant offensive burden, attempting a career-high 38 shots in his quest to lead the team to victory. His previous high was 50 points in a losing game against the Sacramento Kings in February 2021.
Despite Jokic’s impressive offensive display, the Nuggets faced challenges on the defensive end, allowing the Wizards to exploit their vulnerabilities. Washington’s Jordan Poole was a standout performer, scoring 39 points, including nine 3-pointers, while Justin Champagnie and Jonas Valanciunas made important contributions to secure the win for the Wizards.
