With the advancement of technology, the Islamabad Traffic Police introduced a digital driving licence card. It is stored in the driver’s smartphone and does not serve as an alternative to the physical licence.

To acquire a driver’s licence, applicants are required to pass both a theoretical and a practical examination, along with paying a fixed fee to the government for the issuance of the licence.

In the recent past, the Islamabad Traffic Police launched a digital driving licence featuring 12 advanced security measures designed to prevent tampering and counterfeiting.

To help reduce traffic violations, the traffic police in Islamabad are set to link the new digital driver’s licence with the Safe City initiative, NADRA, and the Excise Department.

Residents of the federal capital who already hold a valid driver’s licence can apply for the digital version by paying a specified fee. In May this year, the traffic police revised the pricing schedule for driving licences, establishing a fixed cost of Rs2,000 for the Digital Driving License Card.

Moreover, the administration has announced an increase in fees for various types of driver’s licences and their renewals.

It has significantly increased fees for various types of driver’s licences, with the charge for a learning driver’s licence set at Rs1,000, up from Rs349 for a six-month validity period.

The cost for motor vehicles and motorbike driving licences has risen from Rs1,800 to Rs3,000. Meanwhile, fees for professional licences, including light transport vehicles and heavy transport vehicle licences, have jumped from Rs2,100 to Rs10,000.
