The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved a substantial Rs. 43 billion investment to introduce eco-friendly buses across five major cities in Punjab, Pakistan.

The initiative, approved during the PDWP’s 39th meeting chaired by Planning and Development Board Chairman Nabeel Awan, aims to improve public transportation while addressing environmental concerns.

The meeting was attended by key officials including P&D Board Secretary Dr. Asif Tufail, Transport Department Secretary Ahmed Javed Qazi, and Chief Economist Masood Anwar, along with other senior board members.

The project will deploy the new buses in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur.

The initiative hopes to reduce air pollution by improving air quality in these urban centers. It also hopes to ease traffic congestion by providing a more efficient transportation alternative to private vehicles.

Officials anticipate the new buses will significantly contribute to a cleaner, more efficient, and higher-quality public transportation system.
