Fazl reaches conditional agreement with govt over constitutional amendment

JUI-F chief has suggested a bench instead of a constitutinal court

The federal government has finalized its preparations for constitutional amendments, and a joint session of parliament has been scheduled for October 18. Meanwhile, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has conditionally agreed to the proposed amendments.

Sources say the government has completed all its groundwork regarding the constitutional amendments. A joint session of parliament has been decided for October 18, and the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has prepared the summary for the session.

The National Assembly and Senate sessions will be convened separately, and crucial constitutional amendments will be introduced in both houses.

Sources further report that Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has conditionally agreed to the proposed amendments. The JUI-F leader has suggested the formation of a five or six-member constitutional bench instead of referring the matter to the full Constitutional Court.

There is a possibility that Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman’s suggestions will be incorporated into the draft of the constitutional amendments. The JUI-F has reportedly completed 80% of its own draft of proposed amendments.

Sources also indicate that the government is in contact with Sardar Akhtar Mengal, the head of the Balochistan National Party. It is anticipated that both senators from Mengal’s party will support the government in the Senate.
