The administration of the Holy Mosques in Makkah and Medina issued a statement on Friday condemning recent inflammatory remarks made by Indian controversial figure Mahant Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati.

In their statement, the administration called upon international organizations to take decisive action against individuals who incite communal tension. They emphasized the need for measures that promote religious harmony and combat Islamophobia.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the Haramain Sharifain said, “The Haramain Sharifain strongly condemns the blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon Him) committed by an Indian priest, and calls on international organizations to prevent elements that incite communal discord and take steps to combat Islamophobia while promoting religious harmony.”

The condemnation followed the circulation of a video on social media in which Yati Narsinghanand makes derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad. Protests erupted across various regions in India, including Jammu and Kashmir and Hyderabad, in response to his remarks.

On Thursday, an FIR was filed against Narsinghanand for and inflammatory speech he delivered at an event in Ghaziabad on September 29. Reports indicated that he was detained on Saturday, and additional FIRs have been registered against him in Amravati, Maharashtra, and Telangana.

AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi had formally requested that Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand initiate a criminal case against Narsinghanand for his offensive statements.

Narsinghanand was also charged under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code based on a complaint from Trivendra Singh, a police officer at Sihani Gate police station, for inciting religious discord. The controversial figure has several ongoing cases, including one related to hate speech delivered at a conclave in Haridwar in December 2021, for which he was previously released on bail.
