Lawyer who misbehaved with CJP Isa in court arrested

He warned that 500 lawyers were waiting outside

Lawyer Mustafain Kazmi has been arrested for contempt of court following a heated exchange with Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

The arrest comes after Kazmi, a lawyer affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, issued threats to the Supreme Court’s larger bench during a hearing on the Article 63-A review case.

During the hearing, Kazmi became agitated and threatened the five-judge larger bench with serious consequences if a decision was made against the PTI.

He stated that the five-member bench was unconstitutional, and warned that 500 lawyers were waiting outside, questioning how the bench would dare to rule against the PTI.

Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail responded by stating that Kazmi’s behavior had eroded any remaining sympathy the court might have had.

Chief Justice Isa ordered plainclothes police officers to remove Kazim from the courtroom. Today, Kazmi was arrested. Reports indicate that police initially embraced Kazim in a show of apparent courtesy before proceeding with the arrest.

Kazmi has been transferred to the Secretariat Police Station.
