Pakistan’s athlete Haider Ali won a bronze medal in the discus throw event at the Paralympics in Paris, France on Friday.

Competing as the only Pakistani discus throw player, Ali achieved a throw of 52.54 metres to secure the bronze medal.

At the event, Haider faced challenges with his performance, as his first four throws were declared fouls. Uzbekistan’s Tolibboy Yuldashev won gold with a throw of 57.28 metres while Canada’s Jesus Zesseu claimed the silver with a throw of 53.24 metres.

Ali previously brought home a gold medal for Pakistan at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. The ongoing Paralympic competition in Paris features over 4,000 athletes from 170 countries.

At 39 years old, Ali has earned a remarkable collection of medals at the Paralympics, including two bronzes, one silver, and one gold. His latest achievement in Paris marks his fifth appearance at the Games. Notably, all of Pakistan’s Paralympic medals have been won by Ali.

His journey began at the Beijing 2008 Games, where he secured a silver medal in the men’s Long Jump F37/38 with a jump of 6.44 metres. In the Rio 2016 Games, he added a bronze to his collection in the men’s T37 long jump. Like in Paris, he was the sole representative for Pakistan and served as the flag-bearer during the opening ceremony.

Ali reached the pinnacle of his career at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where he won gold in the Men’s Discus Throw F37, solidifying his status as a legendary figure in Pakistani sports.
