The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 would be moved from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates.

“It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event,” ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement.

The tournament is set to take place from October 3 to 20 and will be held in Dubai and Sharjah.

He acknowledged the BCB’s efforts to make the tournament possible but noted that travel advisories from various participating countries made it unworkable. The BCB would retain the rights to host a future ICC event.

Allardice also thanked the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in and expressed gratitude to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their support. He looks forward to seeing ICC events in those countries in 2026.

ICC Chair Greg Barclay confirmed that he would not seek a third term and would step down at the end of November. Appointed as Independent ICC Chair in November 2020 and re-elected in 2022, the current directors are expected to submit nominations for the next Chair by August 27. If multiple candidates arise, an election would be held, with the new chair taking office on December 1.
