At least three people fell into the river after the rope of the chairlift broke in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Upper Kohistan on Friday, police said.

The deceased were identified as Naseeb, Sher, and Fida. Bodies of the victims were retrieved by rescue teams.

The incident took place in Barseen where the tourists were enjoying a ride on the chairlift when the rope broke and the three fell into the river.

The police said that as soon as the incident was reported, the operation was started to search for the ill-fatted tourists who fell into the river.

Makeshift cable cars are prevalent in various regions of KP and Gilgit-Baltistan, serving as vital transport links for towns and villages where road construction is challenging due to the difficult terrain.

On July 23, a tragic incident occurred in the Bisham area when a man drowned in the Indus River while attempting to rescue his son, who was stranded on a chairlift.

In another alarming event last year, eight individuals, including six children, were left stranded in a chairlift in Battagram, KP, after the cables snapped. The chairlift hung precariously over a deep ravine, surrounded by steep mountains and rocky terrain, until the army, aided by local residents, successfully rescued all passengers after several harrowing hours.
