Punjab govt announces Kissan card to registered people by Sept
The Punjab government has announced that it will start providing “Kissan Cards” to registered farmers starting September 1, 2024.
Farmers can use these cards to purchase fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides/insecticides from nearby Bank of Punjab branches.
Registering farmers for this scheme is underway, and the Secretary of Agriculture for Punjab, Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, hopes to register one million farmers by August 31, 2024.
As of now, over 600,000 farmers have already been registered under the scheme.
Sahoo also revealed that information desks will be set up at Bank of Punjab branches to help farmers understand how to utilize these Kissan Cards.
Additionally, the Secretary of Agriculture has instructed the relevant authorities to expedite the process of registering dealers who will accept these cards for the purchase of agricultural inputs like fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides.
The high-level meeting to review the progress of the Kissan Card scheme was attended by representatives from the Bank of Punjab and senior officers from the Agriculture Department.
