Gang leader of ‘transgender robbers’ arrested in Lahore
The Lahore police’s Dolphin Force has claimed to have arrested a suspected gang leader of “transgender robbers” accused of robbing students.
The incident occurred on Friday night at Canal Road Nursery Chowk, where a group of transgender individuals robbed some students, a police spokesperson said on Saturday.
“Upon receiving a call for assistance on 15, the Dolphin team reached the site and managed to apprehend the gang leader, however, his accomplices managed to flee the scene,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson stated that the gang had previously been involved in carrying out similar robberies on the two-way road, as students often use the bridge to commute to the university. “The gang would forcibly snatch mobile phones and cash from the passersby through coercion and intimidation.”
The arrested suspect, who is from Layyah, is accused of stealing Rs15,000 from a citizen on Friday. The police claimed that the affected citizens had identified the arrested individual.
The recovered items from the detained suspect, known as Ayesha, include a mobile phone and AirPods. The suspect has been handed over to the L Block Police Station for further investigation while the search for the absconding accomplices was under way.
