Saudi Arabia upgrades 4,000km of roads for Hajj
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Roads has completed the extensive preparations on the roads leading to Makkah in anticipation of the upcoming Hajj season, Khaleej Times reported.
With a focus on enhancing the experience of pilgrims, a comprehensive upgrade of 4,000 kilometres of roadways has been undertaken.
The improvements encompassed various aspects, including resurfacing 158 kilometres of roads, addressing cracks and potholes at 403 locations, trimming road shoulders across 2,361 kilometers, removing 1,240 cubic meters of sand dunes, and cleaning valley streams at 421 sites.
Such enhancements are aimed at ensuring smooth and comfortable travel for the pilgrims during their sacred journey.
Recognised by the World Bank for its exceptional interconnection, the kingdom’s road network plays a vital role in facilitating safe travel to the holy sites.
To further ensure the readiness of these routes, Eng Bader Al Dalami, the acting CEO of the General Authority for Roads, conducted an inspection tour of over 2,000 kilometres of roads leading to key religious destinations.
