Iranian President Raisi calls for cooperation against terrorism
President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi called for cooperation against terrorism between Iran and Pakistan in his address after meeting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Dr Raisi arrived in Pakistan on an official visit on Monday. The visit will last till April 24.
He said that Pakistan and Iran have common religious, historical and cultural relations, cooperation of both countries is necessary in the fight against terrorism, they will work together to eliminate terrorism, organized crime and drugs.
The Iranian president said that it is necessary to end the ongoing Israeli aggression in Palestine. The response of the Pakistani people to the atrocities committed in Gaza and Palestine is commendable, they value Pakistan’s position on the ongoing atrocities and genocide in Gaza and Palestine. The United Nations and the United Nations must raise their voice for the rights of the innocent people of Palestine.
President Raisi, upon his arrival at the PM House, was accorded a guard of honor, showcasing the esteemed welcome extended by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President of Iran Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, in a meeting held here at at the PM House on Monday, agreed to bolster bilateral relations in diverse fields, particularly in combating terrorism in the region.
The meeting saw a comprehensive exchange on enhancing Iran-Pakistan relations across various sectors, underscoring the significance of fostering stronger ties between the two nations.
Key areas of discussion included strategies to augment trade volumes and bolster communication networks, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing economic collaboration.
Dr Raisi also planted a tree to commemorate Earth Day.
“President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi will undertake an official visit to Pakistan from 22 to 24 April 2024. This will be the first visit by any Head of State to Pakistan after the general elections in February 2024,” Foreign Office said in a press release.
“The Iranian President will be accompanied by his spouse and a high-level delegation comprising the Foreign Minister and other members of the cabinet, senior officials as well as a large business delegation.”
MoFA added that the Iranian president will meet the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Chairman Senate and Speaker, National Assembly. He will also visit Lahore and Karachi and meet with the provincial leadership.
“The two sides will have a wide-ranging agenda to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran ties and enhance cooperation in diverse fields including trade, connectivity, energy, agriculture, and people-to-people contacts,” MoFA said.
MoFA added that the visit is immensely important to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran relations.
“They will also discuss regional and global developments and bilateral cooperation to combat the common threat of terrorism. Pakistan and Iran enjoy strong bilateral ties anchored in history, culture and religion. This visit provides an important opportunity to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran relations,” the statement added.
