Pishin DC urges JUI-F to postpone April 20 rally after ‘threat alert’
The Pishin deputy commissioner has urged the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl to postpone its April 20 rally after receiving a “threat alert”.
“Reportedly unknown terrorists ex ITO are planning to carry out attacks at JUI-F public gathering to be held at Pishin on April 20, 2024, in which Maulana Fazlur Rehman is going to participate,” said a statement from the DC Jumardar addressed to the religiopolitical party’s heads in Quetta and Pishin.
Balochistan’s district was the first public gathering of the JUI-F as part of its series of protests against the February 8 general election results, which the party has rejected.
Not convinced with the poll results, Rehman last month announced his decision to boycott by-elections across the country and claimed that Parliament was a representative of the establishment, not the people of country.
In the official handout, the district government maintained that the recent wave of terrorism could not be ruled out. The deputy commissioner recalled the Pishin blast on February 7, a day before elections, that killed 17 people and the martyrdom of a Levies personnel last month. It was also a terrorist attack.
“It is requested to kindly postpone the public gathering/jalsa at Pishin district on April 20 keeping in view the threat alerts,” it added.
