Sindh Governor Tessori invites PPP, other parties for pact on peace

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab claims city’s peace disturbed over last six months
PPP and other parties are invited to make an agreement for peace: Kamran Tessori - Aaj News

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori invited on Wednesday the Pakistan Peoples Party, ruling the province, and other political parties for an agreement on peace amid the disturbing situation.

“Ready to go to whomsoever,” he told reporters in Karachi after Eid prayers.

In the recent past, street crimes have increased in Karachi and many citizens have lost their lives while resisting robberies. Moreover, dacoits in riverine areas, better known as Katcha, have also kidnapped several people from upper areas for ransom.

Officials told the Sindh government last month that nearly 16,000 street crimes had so far been recorded in the metropolis since January. Home Minister Zia Lanjar and IGP Riffat Mukhtar had said that 7,822 cases of street crime in the city were recorded in January 2024 and 5,876 in February and 2,234 in March (till 12 March).

When asked about the issue of dacoits in the border regions of Punjab and Sindh, PPP leader Khursheed Shah told Aaj News that the issue would be resolved in a month.

Earlier this week, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan urged the Sindh High Court chief justice to extend the domain of Pakistan Rangers from Karachi to the whole province given the worsening law and order situation in the province.

Tessori was of the view that the dacoits were concerned over the Special Investment Facilitation Council, which he described as the “future of the country.” He added that the hybrid civil-military forum should take control of law and order in the city.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, who also offered prayers alongside Tessori, claimed that the city’s law and order got worse over the last six months—when the caretaker government was ruling the province.

He added that the situation would be improved.
