Factcheck: Has NADRA removed polling station info from 8300 messages

Spokesperson admits that the crucial info is missing

The National Database and Registration Authority has clarified why information about polling stations is missing from the messages received through its 8300 helpline.

NADRA allows citizens to send their National Identification Card number to 8300 and received details regarding elections in return.

The details include their are the location their vote is registered as well as which constituency their vote is registered in.

However, multiple users had said that the text they received was missing a crucial detail: the name of the polling station where they were supposed to vote which has traditionally been included in the message.

Users also posted screenshots from old messages from 8300 that had displayed the polling station information in the past.

When Aaj News reached out to NADRA regarding the issue, a spokesperson admitted that the claims were true and the information is indeed missing from the messages.

NADRA attributed the omission to a ‘system upgradation’ that had taken place recently.

However, the Authority also clarified that the pollign station names will start appearing in the messages from January 29.

The detail is crucial as voting lists are made for each polling station and voters only have one specific place where their ballot can be cast.

Elections in Pakistan are set to be held on February 8.
