The National Assembly Secretariat has updated its photo gallery of opposition leaders which revealed that Sris Chandra Chattop Adhyaya was the first-ever opposition leader in the house.

The gallery had earlier shown former prime minister Husseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy as the first opposition leader in the lower house.

With the addition of Adhyaya’s name, the opposition leaders in the history of the NA now stand at 20 with Raja Riaz as the most recent opposition leader in the house.

Born in Dhaka, Adhyaya was a Bengali civil servant and politician from East Bengal.

He was a member of the first NA of Pakistan as a representative of East Pakistan.
