Rumors circulating since 2022 have become real as Sania Mirza’s father has confirmed the divorce of her daughter from the former captain of the Pakistan team.

His statement came soon after Shoaib Malik announced on a Saturday that he had contracted a second marriage with well-known Pakistani actor Sana Javed in Karachi, following his divorce from Sania Mirza.

The cricketer who had tied the knot with Indian tennis star Sania Mirza 13 years ago in April 2010, announced his new marriage by sharing a photo on social media with his new wife.

He captioned it with the words “And we created you in pairs.”

According to Sania’s father, Imran Mirza, Sania took “khula,” from Shoaib Malik which is the right of a Muslim woman to unilaterally divorce her husband.

He claimed Sania was unhappy with Shoaib’s relationships with other women.

Speculation about Shoaib and Sania’s marriage going soar had been circulating since 2022, and their public appearances together became rare. Recently, Malik also unfollowed Sania on Instagram.

Sania Mirza, one of India’s most accomplished tennis players, announced her retirement last year after a 20-year career, during which she secured 43 WTA doubles titles and one singles trophy, establishing herself as a trailblazer for women in sports.
