At least 23 iPhones worth Rs9.2 million have been recovered from a woman at the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, said a statement issued on Sunday.

The Customs officials had stopped the woman at the Green Channel of the airport on suspicion of having illegal items. She landed in Karachi from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates on an Air Arabia flight.

When the officials scanned the luggage of the woman, they identified empty mobile phone boxes and graphic cards.

“When asked about the empty mobile phone boxes, she could not give a satisfactory answer. On this, the lady officer took the female passenger to the searching room and conducted a physical search on her and found 23 iPhone 15 Pro Max taped to her body,” said that statement.

Officials said that recovered mobile phones were worth around Rs9.2 million and Rs4.3 million of duty was imposed on them.

The Customs officials took the recovered phones into their custody and arrested the woman after registering a case against her under the Customs Act.

Officials added that the woman was being further interrogated after obtaining remand from the court.
