Asia’s largest spice market faces severe setback amid rainfall
The seasonal rain in Sindh province has affected the biggest chilly market of Asia as the downpour wet the storage.
The first rain of the winter season in Kunri of Umarkot badly affected red chilly kept for drying in Asia’s largest chilly market.
The rain raised the fear of heavy loss due to the soaking of red chilies lying under the open sky can be messed up.
Traders said half of the plot of the pepper market is undeveloped and there is no space for soaking chilly. “Now we have to bear the losses,” says a trader.
A trader added that work related to exporting the chilly was approximately completed but the rain had submerged all hard work.
The traders demanded that Asia’s largest pepper market be provided facilities like shelters so they could escape losses.
