The DNA samples of Pir Asad Shah, the prime suspect in the murder case of a nine-year-old housemaid in Sindh’s Khairpur, have matched with the semen obtained from the clothes of the victim, Sindh Caretaker Minister for Law and Human Rights Muhammed Omer Soomro said on Thursday.

In a statement, he clarified that the samples were also sent to Punjab where the report gave negative results. But a report from the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences in Jamshoro showed positive a result.

According to the report, the minister said that more than one person sexually assaulted the victim.

The deceased girl was employed as a domestic worker at a haveli (mansion) owned by Asad Shah in Khairpur’s Ranipur area. She was found dead under mysterious circumstances on August 14.

The action was taken against two persons including medical superintendent in Khairpur for alleged negligence, Soomro said and added that no one’s negligence could be tolerated under any circumstances.

“The case will be brought to a logical conclusion based on a thorough investigation and evidence,” he said.

Earlier, he said that the prime suspect’s DNA samples had successfully matched in an analysis by Lahore’s forensic laboratory. Officials from Sindh’s Health Department had tampered with the samples due to ‘connections’ with Shah, which prevented a match earlier, he had claimed.

Sindh’s caretaker Interior Minister Haris Nawaz said that officials should make sure that no important pieces of evidence are lost so the culprits involved in the heinous crime can be punished.

In August, a 10-year-old girl named Fatima was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the haveli of Asad Shah in Ranipur, Khairpur.

Initial reports claimed she was killed and that marks of torture were found on her body.

She worked as a maid in Shah’s house and was buried without a post-mortem examination.

Her body was later exhumed for a post-mortem examination where police said that she was raped before she died. A post-mortem report also confirmed the same.

A case was lodged on the complaint of her mother, Shabnam Khatoon, under Sections 302 (intentional murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) at Ranipur police station and an investigation was initiated.
