Babar’s reign as No.1 ODI batter ends after over two years
Indian cricketers Shubnam Gill and Muhammad Siraj ended the hold of Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi in the ICC ODI ranking as both reached the top spot of batter and bowler, respectively.
Gill claimed the top spot in the men’s ODI batting rankings, which Babar Azam reigned for the past two years. On the other hand, Siraj became the top ODI bowler displacing Afridi from the spot.
Gill has scored 1,449 runs so far from 26 matches, in which he has hit four centuries including a double-century. His average is a stunning 63.00 for the year, as against an overall career average of 61.02.
Meanwhile, in the bowling department, Mohammad Siraj has got his crown back with some impactful performances against Sri Lanka and South Africa and is leading the table with 709 points.
Keshav Maharaj has also been rewarded for his 12 wickets in the World Cup and is in the second spot with 694 points.
Along with Siraj, there are three other Indians in the top 10 bowlers - Kuldeep Yadav at fourth, Jasprit Bumrah at eighth, and Mohammad Shami at 10th.
