Punjab govt to outlaw dancing in stage dramas
Lahore’s assistant commssioner has once again sealed the Shalimar theatre as part of a clean up operation agains obscenity in stage plays.
Reports said that the theatre was staging a dance performance despite a ban placed by the government. AC Lahore Cantt found theartre manager Malik Mahmood Akhtar to be in violation of the government’s SOPs and sealed the theatre.
Caretaker Information Minister Amir Mir said that a complete ban on stage plays has been placed in the province and warning letters have been issued throughout the province.
Mir added that the government was planning to amend the Dramatic Performance Act of 1876 and no plays will be allowed till the amendments are completed.
He added that under the new amendments, every play script would have to be approved by the government. No dances will be allowed.
The law will also require a full dress rehearsal by the theatre which will be attended by government representatives to make sure it is compliant with rules.
Mir said that the amendments will be completed in the next 10 days.
