New reports say Nawaz to return on October 15
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to return to Pakistan on October 15.
Reports said that the decision was taken in a meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz with Shehbaz Sharif also in attendance.
While the date has been initailly agreed upon, another meeting will take place in the first week of September to review the decision and finalise details, the reports added.
The meeting will also decide if Nawaz will land in Lahore or Islamabad.
Earlier reports had claimed that Nawaz had put off the plans of his return to October or November 2024, in view of elections being delayed in the country to February or March.
Nawaz has been in self-imposed exile since 2019, when he was allowed to travel abroad on medical grounds. He has spent the time mostly in London and has occasinally travelled to UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Multiple plans for his return have been made and shelved. Meanwhile, the prvious government managed to amend laws to end his lifetime disqualifiaction for running for public office. However, his legal troubles have not completely ended.
