Shehbaz demands investigation after Alvi’s statement
Former Prime Minsiter Shehbaz Sharif has demanded an investigation into the statment of President Alvi denying that he granted assent to the Official Secrets Act and Army Act.
Speaking to the media outside Avenfield House in London on Monday, Shehbaz said that an investigation would make it clear who was telling the truth in the matter.
However, he added that Alvi was occupying the highest office in the land and he should not rely on verbal orders to get things done. He added that in past, whenever Alvi checked a bill he would sign it.
He also questioned why it had taken so long for Alvi to speak up in the matter. He added that the matter involved legislation and the president would ultimately have to provide answers.
Shehbaz is in London where he is expected to meet party supremo Nawaz Sharif. Among the topics discussed will be Nawaz’s return to Pakistan.
A controversy had erupted in Pakistan after President Alvi said on Sunday that he had never given his assent to the two bills. He calimed that he had ordered for the bills to be returned but his staff had defied his orders.
His statement came after Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad Umar were arrested under the Official Secrets Act in the cipher case.
