Fact check: Did a school principal drown in Nowshera?
A video circulating on social media claims a school principal drowned in Nowshera while posing for a photograph. While the video is authentice and has not been digitally altered, it is not recent and the description attached to it is False.
The videos claim that a woman named Shaheen Akhtar, who was a principal of a government school in Akora Khattak, Nowshera, drowned in Kunar river while on vacation. The video showed her standing up to pose for a photograph before she tumbled into the rushing water.
The woman’s origin was linked with both Nowshera and Naran. The posts claimed that the video was recorded on August 14.
The video went viral on social media leading to condolences pouring in from multiple users. Some versions of the post even claimed that funeral prayers have been offered for the woman.
However, Aaj News correspondent confirmed that the video’s location and description are not accurate.
The video is in fact from July 24 and was shot at River Swat. The woman in the video originally belonged to Kalam and lived on the Mingora bypass road and was 35 years old.
The woman was appointed to a CT post in a school in Odigram, Swat and was vacationing in Mahodand where she fell to her death. She was mother to a four-year-old girl and five-year-old girl.
Her brother has also confirmed the details of her life and demise but has refused to apepar on camera. He also appealed to social media users not to repost the video.
